Welcome to our team

United Sculling Alliance is an elite all female rowing team that emphasizes on a different version of rowing, referred to as sculling. Our goal is to empower the young women in our community of Merritt Island and neighboring cities through this incredible sport. Rowing, especially sculling allows an individual to grow and blossom into the ultimate athlete, learning to work with others to achieve greatness.

What is Sculling?

Sculling is a form of rowing that requires a rower to use two smaller oars instead of a singular large oar. Use of a single large oar is referred to as sweep rowing.  Our team focuses on sculling due to it being healthier for our young athletes who are still growing and developing.

Sculling has very little impact on the joints, and requires the use of all muscles in the body equally throughout a rowing stroke. United Sculling Alliance does have access to sweep boats in order to teach and work with the athletes, but due to how harsh sweeping can be on a body after an extended period of time, such as uneven muscle development and back injuries, we have our rowers scull during practice.

Rowing Seasons:

Rowing is a year round sport that is split into two different seasons; fall and spring. The fall season begins in August and carries out through early December. This time of the year we focus on long distance training for 5000 m races. Spring season begins early January and ends in May. Sprints and short distance training are what occur during this time, in preparation of 2000 m races.

Our Equipment/Fleet:

As an elite and competitive team, our female athletes deserve to not only be trained by the best coaches, but also to be trained in the best equipment. We are currently committed to having a Hudson fleet, which is what a majority of our boats are. They are made for the Florida salt water conditions. Our newest addition to the Hudson fleet is our 2019 Quad.
